Review of Alexandre Dumas: The Count of Monte Cristo

The Count of Monte Cristo is the story of someone’s journey of life through betrayed, loneliness, and love. It’s one of the best stories which Alexandre Dumas had created when he was alive. It represents the natural behavior of humans that when somebody else is in better condition, the jealousness grows inside and it ruins soul and mind. It happens in every culture around the world because the behavior is always planted inside. It wouldn’t be that easy if we let everything goes as God plans. Alexandre Dumas shows to the reader that something it’s worth to be revenged for. Dumas explains on the story that character of Edmond Dantes is the most perfect and kindest person in the world. He has the dark side which every normal people have.

Even though, the background of the story is the age when there was a war between Napoleon and The King of France, Dumas could still explore the settings so the readers can enjoy the atmosphere of the story. He shows on this story that love is not selfish. Love is the act when people put attention, caring, and sacrifice to the person he/she loved. Money is not everything when we have to deal with our past. The old people used to say “people will reap what the already sowed” is truly right. Something that very important is forgiven. What if people has the spirit and mind of forgiven, then the world would be a paradise.

Chapter 9

Mysterious Death

Danglars became a rich man now because he owned a bank of his own. Dantes had a plan to set and trick him up for revenge. He pretended to be a rich guy who borrowed a lot of money from Danglars’s bank with a purpose to make him bankrupt. One day Dantes met Villefort’s abandoned son named Benedetto who became a criminal. Dantes had a plan for Benedetto to be a part of his tool to take a revenge on his enemies. Dantes gave him moneys and made him became a rich man named Andrea Calvacanti. He met with his old friends Caderousse. Caderousse was surprised because his friends became a rich man now. Caderousse said he had already sold the diamond which Dantes gave to him. After a while, Andrea would marry Danglar’s daughter, Eugenie. One morning, the Marquise, Valentine’s grandmother was worried because she wanted to give the money and legacy to Valentine. Meanwhile she was died because somebody poisoned her. Wedding ought to go on, Franz came to see his future wife but unfortunately he realized that Valentine’s grandfather was the one who killed Franz’s dad. It was a chance for Maximilian to marry valentine, but Valentine’s servant was poisoned to death too. They suspect there was a murder on their house. The doctor said that Valentine who did that but Villefort refused it.

Chapter 10

Blinded by Greed

Time passed Caderousse needed more money to fulfil his need. He asked Benedetto to give him more money but Benedetto refused it because he thought that giving money to Caderousse was never enough. Caderousse told Benedetto about his plan to steal money from Dantes. Benedetto came to Dantes about his enemy plan and he prepared for everything. One time when Caderousse broke Dante’s house inside he saw a priest who gave him a diamond which was actually Dantes pretended to be a priest. He pretend to ask Caderousse about who gave him an advice and plan how to break in his house. Caderousse said he was told by a criminal named Andrea Calvacanti which was Benedetto. He said that he would prevent the Andrea to marry Eugenie. Afterwards, Caderousse tried to kill him but Dantes failed it. He forced Caderousse to write everything about who was actually Benedetto to Danglars. Dantes let him go but one moment Benedetto killed him instead. Dantes revealed himself as real Edmond Dantes who Cadereousse betrayed years ago. Finally, Caderousse died and Benedetto ran away.

Chapter 11

Web of Revenge

One by one Dantes’s enemy went down. This was the turn for Fernand to pay what he did. Dantes made an accusation about Fernand betrayed a Greek leader named Ali Pasha. Haydee a young girl who lived with Dantes said that she was the daughter of Ali Pasha. She came to the court so she can give a testimony about it. The court proofed that Fernand was guilty. Albert son of Fernand was mad and check out that Dantes was the writer of the accusation and asked to fight him. So, Mercedes begged Dantes to not kill him. Mercedes claimed it was her fault because she wouldn’t wait Dantes. Dantes promised himself that he wouldn’t kill Albert no matter what. After all, they met up but instead of fighting, they were shaking hands each other and Albert understood everything. One day Fernand met Dantes and asked him what did he do to him. Dantes revealed himself once again and Fernand was shocked because recently he reaped what he sowed. After went home, Fernand was left by his family and he chose to kill himself. When the wedding of Andrea and Eugenia began, polices came up to them and caught Andrea and arrested him because he was a true criminal. Dantes kept taking the money of Danglars bank and made him bankrupt. He was so depressed and tried to go overseas. Dantes met Valentine and told her the way to show the murderer. He gave Valentine a pill to make her sleep looks like death even though she was buried inside a tomb. Everyone thought that she was really died. Then, everyone knew that the murderer was Heloise. While investigating Benedetto, Villefort felt so guilty and wanted to make everything right. When he got home he found Heloise and his lovely son died because they committed to suicide. One more time The Count revealed himself as Edmond Dantes. Villefort went crazy. Meanwhile, Dantes felt so bad because he took the revenge thing too far.

Chapter 12
The Power of Love

The revenge was totally completed and he took Maximilian to go with him to go back at their hometown. He met Mercedes one more time and they were crying and weeping because his son Albert joined the army. But Mercedes would be just holding on. He went to the place when he was locked on prison for really long time and realized it didn’t look like a prisoner anymore. He visited Roma and visited Danglers one more. He was a prisoner of a bandit called Luigi Vampa. They said that Danglers was so greedy even though for his own meal. Dantes revealed himself to Danglers that he was the guy who Danglers brought to prison. Danglers said he was sorry about everything. Afterwards, Dantes met Maximilian at the Isle of Monte Cristo. Dantes made Maximilian to drink a pill which was the same pill Dantes gave to Valentine. After Maximilian woke up he met the love of his life, Valentine. They were so happy meeting each other. At first, Dantes wanted Haydee to stay with Valentine but because Haydee insisted Dantes to stay with him, Dantes didn’t have a choice but to bring Haydee with him. The last time, Dantes left a note for Maximilian that Dantes left his riches and gave it to him. Dantes and Haydee were gone somewhere.

Chapter 5
The Treasure Cave

He succeed to escape from his prisoner who kept him locked for years. He escaped because of the help of his old friend’s dead sack so he could escape without the sight of the prison guards. Then he was stuck in an island called Isle of Tiboulen. He saw a fisherman ship who was in trouble because of their ship hit the rock. Dantes couldn’t rescue them because it was too late. Later he saw an italian smuggler ship who wanted to go to treasure island dantes’s friend he was talking about. He told them that he was only a survivor from a fisherman sinking ship then he asked the captain to join becomes a crew of the ship. After they arrived to Isle of Monte Cristo, Dantes tried to trick them because he wanted to stay on the island and look for the treasure his old friend was talking about.He convinced the crew that he couldn’t be able to continue to voyage and ask them to leave Dantes alone. One time when the ship was gone, he opend the map which Father’s Faria gave and follow the instructions. Bingo, he found the treasure chest he was looking.

Chapter 6
The Priest and The Innkeeper

Years later after Dantes’s capturing, all things were turned different. Dantes came to Caderousse and pretended that he was a priest and asked him what was going on when he was in prison. Caderrouse said he was so sorry that happened to Dantes then he explained everything. Caderousse hadbecome the owner of a small country inn in thesouth of France, Danglars became a captain of the ship, Dante’s fiancée had married another person called Fernand who already had a child and they were a rich people, Monsieur Morrel was in bankrupt, and Dante’s dad was already died because sadness. One time Monsieur Morrel was in poverty and he got no money because he had so much debts. One time Dantes came as a mysterious man and gave to Morrel’s daughter a bunch of money. He thought that Monsieur Morral is a nobel man. He wanted for revenge.

Chapter 7
 Eye for an Eye!

One day Mercedes’s son Albert  and his friend Franz visited Rome, Italy for a trip. They need a carriages for the trip itself. But hotelkeeper said there wasn’t any carriage left on the hotel. They were just mad about it. Dantes disguised himself as a regular rich man who wanted to have a good trip. Dantes met the two young guys who arrived. They thanked to him for sharing a carriage with them. Dantes invited them to an execution of two bandits of the town and one of them is Luigi Pampa’s gang.  The bandit who was from Luigi Pampa was paid by Dantes that he would be set free. And the one was totally executed to death. Dantes told them about a story and parable about how revenge is allowed. One time, because a beautiful woman came up to them and kidnapped Albert, Franz was worried  and asked  Dantes to release him by paying money for it. So Dantes met the bandit and suddenly he met the bandit who he had set fee. The bandit felt sorry and pardon to Dantes.

Chapter 8
Arrival In Paris

Three months later, Albert invited all friends included Dantes to come into his breakfast. Dantes made all the guests charmed because of his story. He really looked like a rich man because he was a real rich man. He met a hisex fiancée Mercedes and his enemy Fernand. Mercedes seemed he remember Dante’s face but Fernand didn’t at all. After all, Dantes went to his new home in Paris, he lived with a young girl that he rescue named Haydee. She loved Dantes but Dantes didn’t love her like she loved Dantes, he only regarded Haydee as his child.Villevort’s second wife and her son came up to Dantes to ask his help. Dantes rescued his son and he was invited to visit his one of the enemy who put him on prison for a really long time. He met him afterwards.  The lovely daughter of Villefort from his first wife Renee said that she loved Maxmilian but she couldn’t marry him  because her mother.

Summary of Alexandre Dumas: The Count of Monte Cristo (Chapter 1 - 4)

Chapter 1

The Return of The Pharaon

A ship named Pharaon stopped at the dock of Marseilles of French after a long journey from Italy. People came in crowd to see the ship. It’s a habit to see a ship arrived the dock whether they come in good or bad condition. The owner of The Pharaon, Monsieur Morrel was really exciting to see what was happening. He entered the ship with a help of the ship crew and had a conversation with a young man name Edmond Dantes. Monsieur Morrel had just been told that the previous captain of the ship was died of fever. So he thought Edmond Dantes was deserved to be nominated as the new captain. Edmond Dantes did what the last captain told, he was delivering a package to a guy who lives Isle of Elba, the place which Napoleon was isolated.Some people disliked Dantes because they were envy of Dantes promotion. Afterwards, he came to his daddy’s house and took care good of him. He also had a girlfriend who was named Mercedes. When he entered Mercedes’s house he saw a guy inside the house. The guy was only a friend of Mecedes. Dantes was cool and calm about it and acted naturally and he was happy seeing his girlfriend. The crew ship guy Mr. Danglers and Caderousse, and Mercedes’s friend Fernand didn’t like what Dantes has achieved and reached. They planed something bad for him.

Chapter 2

Falsely Accused

Dantes and Mercedes held the betrothal feast and they               were having fun because they were getting married soon. But in the middle of the feast a police came and captured him. He was so worried about this. Police thought that he is a secret agent of Napoleon. They thought that that would lead to rebellious act to French. Mercedes was so sad about this and she was worried about him. Dante wouldn’t able to lead the ship so Mr. Danglers had to lead. A politician Villevort tried to know what was going on and interviewed Dantes with couple of questions. Villevort himself was accused that he wasn’t loyal to the king because of his father was a follower of Napoleon. Villevort told Dantes that he would destroy the letter that Dantes carried. Dantes just agreed with that. Suddenly a guard came and brought Dantes to a high security prison located in rock in the middle of the sea.

Chapter 3

A man without hope

He was shouting to the guards that he was an innocent. He kept trying to them that he didn’t do anything wrong. But that wouldn’t make a change. He was locked to the prison for years. He was so desperate. Villevort finally had a position in French because of an information he gave to The King. Because of the long sadness, Dantes’s father died in sorrow even though Mercedes tried to take care of him. She was so worried about the condition of Dantes and she couldn’t stop thinking about him all the time. Mercedes didn’t even know about his condition whether he’s still alive or died. After all King Louis still reigned the French.

Chapter 4

Escape

Years after years he was desperate and didn’t know what to do. But at that night he heard something noisy  that heard from the wall. He was curious about it and tried to find out he thought that it would be another prisoner who tried to escape from this high maximum prison. So he tried the same thing afterwards. He used  his metal food pot to dig the hole. For a long time he kept doing that and finally he met the other prisoner. The prisoner said that his name was Father Faria. They started telling their stories and share their feelings. They decided to escape together from the prison because if not they will be locked till death. One time Father Faria told  Dantes the reason why Dantes went to the jail. It was Villevort who made that up. Villevort’s father actually is Napoleon follower and he would to save himself. One moment they did what they planned but Father Faria wouldn’t able to go with Dantes because of his sickness so he left a paper about the treasure in Isle of Monte Cristo to Dantes. He considered Dantes as his own son. Dantes was sad because his only friend in prison died. He made a new plan. He put Father Faria’s body on his own bed while he put himself on a big dead body sack and brought a knife within. The guards then thought that Father Faria is died and should throw him away into the sea instead of Dantes. The plan was success and he made it. He cut the sack after he was thrown to water.

Mencegah Motor Mogok Saat Banjir

 

Bagi pengendara sepeda motor yang memiliki tingkat mobilitas yang tinggi, perlu waspada menghadapi banjir atau genangan air apalagi saat musim hujan. Jika hal ini tidak dihiraukan, maka dapat menyebabkan mogok pada motor kita. Beberapa pengendara di saat musim hujan tiba, lebih memilih menggunakan kendaraan umum dari pada membawa kendaraan sendiri, karena dirasa lebih ribet ditambah lagi jika kondisi jalan berlubang menyebabkan motor mogok. Banjir memang membawa kesulitan, selain jalan macet aktivitas juga terhambat.

Saat keadaan mendesak dan harus mengendarai sepeda motor di saat hujan, maka tidak ada pilihan lain selain menerobos banjir tersebut. Namun tak perlu terlalu khawatir, karena ada cara yang dapat mencegah motor mogok. -          Jika ingin menerobos banjir usahakan tidak memainkan gas, terutama pada motor kopling. Jadi mainkan setengahnya saja dan tahan gas agar tetap stabil sampai melewati banjir.
-          Jika motor mesin mati saat menerobos banjir, jangan di starter lagi. Sebaiknya langsung  bongkar mesin sebelum kena semua.
Saat motor menerobos air yang tingginya mencapai bibir knalpot dan terus memutar gas, maka pada knalpot terjadi proses keluar masuk angin yang menyebabkan air gampang masuk ke dalam knalpot. Jika pengendara membongkar mesin hendaknya memperhatikan radiator apakah sudah kering dan bersih dari air. Jika semuanya telah selesai pasang kembali, dan hidupkan motor dengan menggunakan starter kaki.  Cara ini sangat penting khususnya bagi pengendara yang menggunakan sepeda motor sebagai alat transporasi utamanya.

Apakah Tuhan Menyediakan Jodoh Untuk Setiap Orang?

Sebelum menikah atau memiliki pasangan hidup kita sering mendengar bahwa kita tidak perlu khawatir sebab Tuhan telah sediakan jodoh yang terbaik untuk setiap kita,

Sebelum menikah atau memiliki pasangan hidup kita sering mendengar bahwa kita tidak perlu khawatir sebab Tuhan telah sediakan jodoh yang terbaik untuk setiap kita, namun pada kenyataanya ada beberapa orang yang tidak menikah sampai akhir hayatnya.

Menurut Kamu, Apakah Tuhan menyediakan jodoh untuk setiap orang ato tidak? dan apa alasannya?


“Jodoh ditangan Tuhan” merupakan ungkapan umum dan diakui dikalangan masyarakat luas. Namun jika dikaji lebih dalam, benarkah secara otoriter Tuhan sudah mentakdirkan jodoh seseorang? Mungkin dapat dipahami bahwa kalimat “jodoh ditangan Tuhan” merupakan ungkapan warisan atau ucapan latah yang turun menurun diwariskan sebagai tradisi yang sudah sangat membudaya ditengah masyarakat. Allah yang adil dan berkuasa bukanlah tipe pribadi yang memaksakan kehendakNya dengan sewenang-wenang menggunakan otoritasnya untuk memaksakan seseorang mengikuti perintahNya. Jika persoalan jodoh Ia tetapkan menurut kemauanNya sendiri maka dapat dipastikan manusia kehilangan hak istimewanya sebagai pribadi yang memiliki kehendak bebas.
Perlu menjadi renungan banyak orang-orang atheis yang menikah diluar Tuhan hidup mereka baik-baik, perkawinan mereka cocok, turun temurun bahkan orang-orang punya ajaran sesat, bidat dan ngawur menikah tanpa campur tangan Tuhan mereka bisa membangun rumah tangga mereka baik-baik. Apakah jodoh mereka di tangan Tuhan? bukan sama sekali jodoh mereka adalah pilihan mereka sendiri tanpa doa dan sederetan ritual keagamaan bahkan diantaranya tidak ada yang memiliki kepekaan sama sekali!

Dapat dipastikan bahwa Tuhan tidak memberangus hak azasi manusia dari sejak zaman Adam sampai kapanpun. Manusia bukanlah robot yang bisa digerakkan dengan remote kontrol tetapi sebagai makluk ciptaan yang paling mulia bahkan memiliki posisi hampir seperti Allah sendiri. Sekalipun Allah mengetahui babak terakhir dari kisah hidup seseorang tetapi Ia tidak menggerakkan orang tersebut seperti seorang dalang yang memainkan wayang kulitnya. Allah bukanlah suatu pribadi yang memiliki ambisi memaksakan kehendakNya agar semua makluk menuruti kemauanNya. Jika memang Allah mentakdirkan jodoh manusia, maka kita perlu pertanyakan model apakah Dia?
Kehendak bebas manusia bukan saja menentukan pilihan yang baik dan yang jahat tetapi juga menyangkut masalah jodoh sebagai teman hidup. Manusia dapat memilih yang terbaik dan sempurna menurut anggapannya sendiri sekalipun bukan menurut standarnya Tuhan. Manusia memiliki kehendak bebas memilih siapapun, dan terkadang memiliki kecenderungan memiliki lebih dari satu pilihan. Setiap pilihan atau keputusan mengandung resiko positip dan negatif. Jika manusia salah memilih jodoh maka ia harus berani menanggung akibatnya. Sebaliknya pilihan yang terbaik yagn sesuai dengan patronnya Allah akan menerima kebahagiaan di bumi seperti di dalam sorga!

Namun harus diakui bahwa Tuhan menentukan diriNya sendiri sebagai kekasih jiwa orang percaya. Setiap anak Tuhan sudah dijodohkan dengan kekasih jiwanya dengan Kristus Yesus dalam perkawinan Anak domba Allah (2 Kor 11:2). Tidak ada perkawinan dibumi yang bahagia dibanding perkawinan Anak domba Allah. Sorga tidak ada sangkut pautnya dengan jodoh dibumi tetapi jodoh yang Allah sudah tentukan yakni Anak Domba Allah sendiri. Sebab tidak mungkin di sorga nanti seseorang masih memiliki predikat suami untuk istrinya disorga sebab manusia sudah hidup seperti malaikat di sorga. Markus 12:25 menyatakan bawah “Sebab apabila orang bangkit dari antara orang mati, orang tidak kawin dan tidak di kawinkan melainkan hidup seperti malaikat di sorga”.

Disain Allah

Walaupun jodoh bukanlah ditangan Tuhan tetapi Ia ikut campur tangan untuk memimpin manusia dalam menentukan pilihan yang terbaik. Jika Tuhan campur tangan dalam persoalan yang satu ini maka Ia memiliki kepentingan khusus terhadap orang pilihanNya. Satu-satunya orang yang jodohnya sudah ditentukan oleh Tuhan sendiri adalah Adam selain itu tidak ada. Ketika Allah membawa seorang wanita kepada Adam maka tidak ada pilihan lain, Adam tidak dapat menolak pemberian Allah. Adam tidak perlu ditanya model apakah wanita yang menurut seleranya. Tanpa “pesanan” model wanita yang diingini oleh Adam Allah menciptakan jodoh terbaik. Adam tidak tahu dari mana jodohnya tersebut sebelum Tuhan memberitahukan kepadanya darimana ia berasal sebab ketika wanita pertama didisain oleh Allah, Adam berada dalam posisi tidur nyenyak. Kejadian 2:21-22 menyatakan Lalu TUHAN Allah membuat manusia itu tidur nyenyak; ketika ia tidur, TUHAN Allah mengambil salah satu rusuk dari padanya, lalu menutup tempat itu dengan daging. Dan dari rusuk yang diambil TUHAN Allah dari manusia itu, dibangunNyalah seorang perempuan, lalu dibawaNya kepada manusia itu. Nyenyak dalam bahasa Ibrinya tardemah dibaca tar-day-maw' yang memiliki arti tidak sadarkan diri (trance) King James menterjemahkan dengan kata deep sleep.

Setiap orang harus mencari jodoh dengan caranya masing-masing. Harus dimengerti tidak ada orang yang dibisikkan oleh Tuhan nama dan alamat calon jodohnya, kecuali orang-orang tertentu yang memang ditentukan untuk itu. Mereka adalah orang-orang yang sungguh-sungguh berada dalam rel nya Tuhan yaitu orang yang berjalan bersama Roh Kudus, peka dan berjalan dalam hadiratNya senantiasa.

Cara kerja Allah

Tuhan memiliki kepentingan dalam pernikahan anak-anakNya. Tujuannya agar pernikahan orang percaya memiliki kebahagiaan yang prima. Ia memasang rambu-rambu dalam memilih jodoh, melanggarnya itu berarti malapetaka.

Setiap orang harus memahami bahwa dirinyalah yang berusaha menentukan pasangan hidupnya, tentu yang sesuai sesuai dengan kehendak Tuhan. Adapun acuannya adalah Firman Allah. Seseorang tidak bisa berdiam diri hanya berdoa tanpa menjaga penampilan dan menunggu Tuhan mengirimkan jodohnya. Orang perlu bergaul, berdandan dan memiliki rasa simpati terhadap lawan jenisnya. Jika seorang bergaul dalam lingkungan gereja dengan benar maka dapat dipastikan ia akan memperoleh jodohnya dari dalam gereja tersebut. Sedangkan jika seseorang bergaul dengan orang dunia maka ia akan memperoleh dari sumber dunia juga!

Kepastian akan jodoh yang dari Tuhan itu akan terungkap jika seseorang berada dalam kehendakNya. Allah memang tahu tetapi takdirnya atau lebih tepat rencanaNya semula Allah sanggup menuntun kepada seseorang untuk menemukan jodohnya yang sesuai dengan kriteria Illahi. Untuk hal ini seseorang harus berusaha hidup bergaul erat dengan Tuhan, sampai ia benar-benar yakin akan pasangannya. Keaktifan ini juga menjauhkan kesalahan yang fatal dalam perceraian kelak, sebab pemilihan yang dilandasi ‘konfirmasi yang akurat dengan Firman Tuhan akan mendatangkan sukacita dalam perkawinan.

Setiap orang harus menyadari bahwa pemutusan pertunangan memiliki penderitaan ringan dibanding perceraian yang menyakitkan! Bila seseorang menikah dengan cara dan pilihannya sendiri tanpa konfirmasi dari Tuhan maka dapat dipastikan ia akan mengalami penderitaan “neraka dalam rumah tangga”. Namun bagaimana bagi mereka yang sudah terlanjur menikah dan serasa bukan jodohnya? Apakah orang tersebut harus menceraikan isterinya dan berkelana mencari jodohnya yang sebenarnya? Tidak demikian! Allah sanggup memberikan keharmonisan rumah tangga, sehingga rumah tangga seseorang merasakan bahwa mereka adalah pasangan yang serasi. Tidak semua pernikahan yang awalnya yakin bahwa mereka merupakan pasangan yang tepat, akan selalu berada dalam atmosfer kebahagiaan. Sebab pernikahan bukan dilahirkan begitu saja, tetapi dikerjakan, diusahakan, perlu penyesuaian diri dan perjuangan.

Setiap orang harus juga menyadari bahwa perkawinan bukan saja menyangkut hubungan sex saja tetapi menyangkut berbagai macam aspek yang perlu dicukupi. Seseorang tidak hanya harus dipuaskan di bidang biologis tetapi juga dibidang yang lain, baik ekonomi, jiwani, komunikasi, dll. Jika seseorang hanya terfokus kepada satu sisi saja, dan mengabaikan yang lain, maka perkawinan akan mengalami kegagalan. Jika seseorang terfokus soal ekonomi, maka jika ia mengalami kemiskinan maka ia akan mengatakan gagal total. Dalam memilih jodoh seseorang perlu menyadari betapa ia harus memperhatikan berbagai macam segi. Cinta itu tidak buta tetapi justru harus membuka mata lebar-lebar.

Hikmat yang dimiliki Salomopun tidak menjamin ia berhasil dalam perkawinannya.
